Speech Therapy Services
Individualized, evidence-based speech and language therapy and literacy support for children.
Evaluations
Evaluations determine the presence of speech, language, or literacy impairments and provide a detailed picture of a child’s strengths and areas of need. At Shores Speech & Language we use parent report, standardized testing, informal assessments, and observations to gain information to guide the development of an individualized treatment plan. Following your child’s evaluation we will discuss and explain the results. You will also receive a comprehensive report detailing the results and recommendations.
Our Approach to Therapy
We evaluate and treat children with speech and language disabilities, dyslexia, autism, and ADHD by combining evidence based approaches, children’s interests, compassion and empathy. Our mission is to implement effective therapy that delivers outcomes while maintaining and supporting our client’s emotional well-being and self-confidence. As a result we use a neurodiversity affirming approach which aims to improve overall quality of life, academic and social access while avoiding the shame and trauma that other approaches can cause.
Individualized Therapy Services
-
Speech therapy targets pronunciation impacted by articulation, phonology, and apraxia.
Stuttering therapy teaches techniques for increased fluency as well as supports confidence in communicating.

Language therapy targets receptive language, expressive language, and/or social language. This includes following directions, responding to questions, vocabulary, expanding sentences, and communicating wants and needs. Social language involves understanding and using nonverbal communication, understanding hidden meanings (i.e. jokes, sarcasm), and achieving successful outcomes in communicating for social purposes.

We use a neurodiversity affirming approach that supports your child’s presence in a neurotypical dominant world. Some methods used include sensory regulation, gestalt language processing intervention, use of AAC, perspective taking to build awareness, and self-advocacy.
